Splendour

The DBGN is located in an area of farmland at the foot of the Gamsberg. It is a region of pristine beauty where rugged rocky outcrops give way to sandy plains that stretch towards what lies beyond the horizon, which is the ancient Namib Desert. Ordinarily a stark, arid landscape in which endemic plants defy the odds as they not only cling to life but actually proliferate, it is utterly transformed when the rains come, when a lush abundance turns the vistas into a profusion of green grasses and unexpectedly riotous and colourful blooms.

Everything about this landscape feels elemental, from the geomorphic features that typify the region, to the clear (day and night) skies and a silence that allows one to really pay attention to the beauty before one.
